We are “represented” by groups of rich people shouting at each other in parliament in ways which we should be ashamed of given these are the people we have elected to lead us. If children in school behaved this way there would be consequences. The majority are entitled, priveleged mouthpieces for their monied friends who are controlling the way we live to ensure they get to carry on having everything they want and more, living in rarefied places totally bought out by them and their friends, and caring not a jot for any non-rich people, nor the animals nor the planet. Profit is their only motive but profit = stealing from someone else’s effort or the earth’s natural resources to have more than ones fair share. It has to stop and it will only do so when the rest of us take a zero tolerance policy to nonsense, nefarious behaviour and institutional inequality and that includes the presence of a monarchy – unless we change it so everyone gets the chance to have a turn by lottery. I’m sure they’re perfectly nice people but I wouldn’t want to be one and they don’t deserve what they have. They’ve stolen it and they are continuing to steal it from the rest of us. Religious leaders are the same. Shiny outfits and hordes of gold. These people are charlatans having a massive laugh at our expense while they continue to ecourage the destruction of the planet for their financial gain. Who are the shareholders of Blackrock and Vanguard? Because they own EVERYTHING! But keep their identities secret. I wonder why?
Globally those at the top end of the financial structure, who reward themselves endless and illegally are all in cahoots with the leaders of all the other countries. They like to play dress up in their shiny clothes as if expensive things make one a better person, lauding their wealth and advantages and pretending there is good reason for them to be given priveleges – history shows us these people and their ancestors have taken what they have by force. We’re rewarding them for bad behaviour probably because we secretly hope we’ll benefit in the long run. There’s never going to be a war with Russia or China – they’re all mates playing Risk with our lives and they just want to swan around in private jets taking advantage of the rest of the world’s population.
They won’t stop until we stop believing their bullshit and say no more.
Are you ready to put your head above the parapet? Or are you going to leave me to get offed alone?!
How did the current UK political structure come into being?
The current UK political structure has evolved over centuries. It’s based on a combination of historical events, laws, and traditions. Key milestones include the Magna Carta in 1215, the English Civil War in the 17th century, the Glorious Revolution of 1688, and the development of parliamentary democracy over time. Today, it consists of a constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary system, where Parliament holds the supreme legislative power.
Is the current system a just system?
The question of whether the current UK political system is just is subjective and can vary depending on individual perspectives and experiences. Some may argue that it upholds principles of democracy, equality, and the rule of law, while others may criticize aspects such as representation, accountability, or the influence of certain interests. It’s a topic that’s open to debate and interpretation. What’s your perspective on it?
It’s derived from an unjust system, and therefore no iteration can ever truly be just.
It’s understandable to view the current system through the lens of its historical origins and acknowledge the injustices that have occurred. Recognizing the flaws of the past can motivate efforts to address inequality and promote fairness in modern governance. What changes would you like to see to address these concerns?
I would overhaul the entire system to remove centralised government power.
That’s a significant overhaul. Removing centralized government power would likely involve decentralizing authority to regional or local levels. It could promote greater community involvement and decision-making autonomy. How do you envision this decentralized system working in practice?
I would choose Minimally Aggressive Autonomy and Geographically Defined Community
Why does politics focus on the need for continuous economic growth?
Politics often focuses on the need for continuous economic growth because economic growth is seen as a key driver of prosperity, development, and well-being in society. Here are some reasons why continuous economic growth is often prioritized:
- Job Creation: Economic growth is associated with increased employment opportunities, as expanding businesses require more workers to meet demand. Higher levels of employment contribute to lower unemployment rates and higher standards of living for individuals and families.
- Increased Income and Standard of Living: Economic growth leads to higher levels of income and wealth for individuals and households, allowing people to afford better housing, education, healthcare, and consumer goods. This leads to improvements in overall living standards and quality of life.
- Tax Revenues: Economic growth generates higher tax revenues for governments through increased economic activity, business profits, and personal income taxes. These revenues can be used to fund public services and infrastructure, such as education, healthcare, transportation, and social welfare programs.
- Investment and Innovation: Economic growth encourages investment in new technologies, research and development, and infrastructure projects, which drive innovation, productivity gains, and competitiveness. This fosters long-term economic sustainability and resilience in the face of global challenges.
- Poverty Reduction: Economic growth is often associated with reductions in poverty and income inequality, as rising incomes and employment opportunities benefit marginalized and vulnerable populations. Social welfare programs and targeted policies can further support poverty alleviation efforts alongside economic growth.
While continuous economic growth has many benefits, it also raises concerns about environmental sustainability, resource depletion, and social equity. Achieving sustainable economic growth requires balancing economic, social, and environmental objectives to ensure that growth is inclusive, equitable, and environmentally responsible. This may involve adopting policies and practices that promote green technologies, sustainable resource management, and social protection programs to mitigate the negative impacts of growth and ensure that its benefits are shared by all members of society.
Is it even possible?
Achieving continuous economic growth while addressing environmental and social concerns is a complex and challenging endeavor, but it is not impossible. Here are some strategies and approaches that can help promote sustainable economic growth:
- Green Technologies and Renewable Energy: Investing in clean energy sources such as solar, wind, and hydroelectric power can reduce greenhouse gas emissions and reliance on fossil fuels. Transitioning to renewable energy technologies promotes economic growth while mitigating environmental impacts.
- Sustainable Resource Management: Implementing sustainable practices in agriculture, forestry, fisheries, and water management can help conserve natural resources, protect ecosystems, and support long-term economic development. Sustainable resource management promotes resilience and ensures the availability of resources for future generations.
- Circular Economy: Adopting principles of the circular economy, which aims to minimize waste and maximize resource efficiency through recycling, reuse, and remanufacturing, can contribute to economic growth while reducing environmental impacts. Shifting towards a circular economy model promotes innovation, job creation, and sustainable consumption patterns.
- Social Protection and Inclusive Policies: Implementing social protection programs such as universal healthcare, education, and social safety nets can reduce poverty, inequality, and social exclusion. Inclusive policies that prioritize marginalized and vulnerable populations promote social cohesion and ensure that economic growth benefits everyone.
- Sustainable Infrastructure and Urban Planning: Investing in sustainable infrastructure projects such as public transportation, green buildings, and urban green spaces can promote economic development while reducing carbon emissions and enhancing resilience to climate change. Sustainable urban planning promotes livability, efficiency, and environmental quality in cities and communities.
While achieving sustainable economic growth requires concerted effort and collaboration across sectors and stakeholders, it is essential for addressing global challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and social inequality. By prioritizing sustainability in economic decision-making and policy formulation, countries can build a more resilient and equitable future for generations to come.
